The award recognises CHROFI and McGregor Coxall for their work breathing new life into the historic High Street Precinct at the heart of Maitland.
The architecture and design team from CHROFI with McGregor Coxall have scooped the Civic and Community - Completed Buildings award at the 2018 World Architecture Festival Awards for their Maitland Riverlink project in Maitland, New South Wales.
The building by CHROFI adjoins the 270-metre-long Levee shopping precinct led by McGregor Coxall, part of a strategy to revive and reposition Central Maitland as a leisure based retail activity centre supported by a night time local produce and wine economy.
The Riverlink was completed in April, in time for Maitland’s annual taste festival, as part of Component Two of The Levee Development. The $9.92 million project was funded by the NSW Government’s Restart NSW Resources for Regions program and included the construction of The Riverlink Building, as well as upgrades to the Bourke Street Link and the Riverside Walk.
At the opening, Maitland mayor, Loretta Baker said, “The Riverlink Building is a wonderful addition to The Levee and it will really strengthen the city’s historic relationship with the Hunter River. It’s a beautiful building that we are very proud of and that our community will use for generations to come.”
This year’s World Architecture Festival, at the RAI Amsterdam Convention Centre in The Netherlands, judged over 500 award finalists, along with alongside live presentations, a 500 project strong gallery and an international product exhibition.
