Bowens, suppliers of the largest variety of quality timber and building supplies in the country for over 128 years, have purchased a circa 5ha industrial site in Melbourne’s west as the future home of its growing business in Victoria.
In a deal negotiated by Colliers’ Hugh Gilbert, Charlie Woodley and Nick Saunders, Bowens has snapped up 27-39 Abey Road in Cobblebank, just south of the City of Melton.
The 48,767sqm property is situated on the western side of Ferris Road and has street frontage of 144m, providing valuable flexibility for Bowens’ future growth as the company looks to purpose-build a new facility to accommodate its expanding presence through the north-west growth corridor of Victoria.
Andy Bowen, Director and Chief Investment Officer of Bowens, highlighted the need to support growing communities and local trades in the area.
“As a market leader in the building supplies industry, Bowens is committed to supplying the best quality products and advice to builders and trades alike especially in areas where it is most needed, which is why we’ve invested in Melbourne’s North-West,” Mr Bowen said.
Mr Gilbert said the transaction illustrated how land-constrained the core Melbourne west industrial market had become.
“Before now, we had seen very little demand from major occupiers and developers looking for the Cobblebank/Melton precinct,” he said. “Throughout the expressions of interest process, we had six qualified bidders and a very tight contest.”
