Award-winning architects Chenchow Little’s fourth project with lifestyle property group BresicWhitney has been shortlisted by the Australian Institute of Architects for a 2018 NSW Architecture Award.
The project, by architects Chenchow Little, is one of 12 up for an award in the Interior Architecture category, with the 2018 NSW Architecture Awards to be announced on Friday 6 July at The Venue in Sydney’s Alexandria.
The Rosebery office is a study in the art of opposites where raw, industrial forms are softened by circular shapes and fluid, theatrical drapery.
From the moment Tony Chenchow and Stephanie Little met Shannan Whitney, it was evident that the BresicWhitney co-founder and CEO was interested in architectural concepts and creating exceptional workplaces that defy the conventions inherent in the real estate industry.
“Shannan holds a brave and bold vision for the company,” explains Chenchow. “We really enjoy the challenging sites and unique vision that BresicWhitney presents, as it requires and rewards creative thinking," he said.

The new Rosebery office is located in a small warehouse tenancy that forms part of ‘The Cannery’ precinct, which is revitalising one of Sydney’s first model industrial suburbs and is home to the likes of Koskela, Black Star Pastry, Three Blue Ducks and Archie Rose Distilling Company. Working within a heritage overlay, the office interior is designed as a theatre set, without solid walls, to respect the existing building fabric including the original exposed beams, trusses, roofline and brickwork.
“It is a privilege to work with BresicWhitney. The trust and creative space afforded to us is truly unique in today’s risk adverse society,” notes Chenchow, Chenchow Little Architects.
The shortlist for the 2018 NSW Architecture Awards was developed following an intensive schedule of presentations followed by site visits to consider 206 entries received across 10 categories, with a notable increase in entries in the Residential and Interior Architecture categories.
Peter Mould, Chair of Juries, said, “I have had the privilege of overseeing the awards program since 2016 and every year I appreciate the variety and richness of opinions generated by debate about architectural excellence.
“This year’s panel chairs were also challenged to determine an overall winning project, which will receive the newly introduced NSW Architecture Medallion”, he added. “There are a number of outstanding projects among this year’s entries, and deliberations are still underway," he said.
The winner of the inaugural NSW Architecture Medallion will be announced at the awards ceremony, along with the winners of other prestigious awards including the NSW Premier’s Prize, the City of Sydney Lord Mayor’s Prize and the Enduring Architecture Award.
Entries that earn NSW Chapter Awards will progress to be considered for the National Awards later this year.
